About UsHelping Hands Vocational Learning Centre is an alternative provision to mainstream which some students benefit from due to the offer of smaller group settings of a 10:2 ratio.
HHVLC provides a safe alternative learning environment for learners who are struggling or excluded from school/college. Places can be short term and long term. We at HHVLC have over 30 years’ experience working with children and young adults with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health difficulties in an Educational and Residential setting. We also have an extensive wealth of knowledge of working with children/young adults at risk of CSE, vulnerable and Under privileged. We work directly with the SEN department, Police, Local Authority, YOT, CAMHS, / Carers and Local Housing Associations. One of our representatives have been successful sporting personalities playing professional rugby and have strong links with the local clubs and businesses. We provide education that is accessible, enjoyable and purposeful. Our staff team are driven, Passionate and dedicated in helping all individuals reach their full potential. Our aim is to work with young people and get them back into full time main stream school. |
AIMS OF THE LEARNING CENTREMotivate – Educate – Empower These are the key words that underpin all of what we do. We strive to create a positive learning environment in which the academic and social needs of the pupils are met, whatever challenges they face and whatever abilities they possess. We view educational qualifications across a wide range of experiences as one key driver. We constantly help and encourage our pupils to obtain the best qualifications of which they are capable, affording them real choices at the end of their time at HHVLC. Alongside this, we aim to provide learning experiences that develop self-esteem and meet the student’s social and emotional needs. We endeavor to reshape negative behavior into positive behaviour. To build social skills and appropriate relationships in the community. To ensure all learners feel safe, secure and valued. |
What we provideWe also provide work related learning and practical subjects that include functional skills, maths, English and standalone assessments and Qualifications Alliance (AQA) units. Pupils can gain qualifications in practical skills for working life such as food technology, beauty therapy, woodwork, hospitality and painting and decorating. To assist healthy and clean living we also have a mini allotment to provide education on agriculture.
Cross curriculum themes include Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) Development – Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (UK) ASDAN which are taught throughout the curriculum and involve external educational visits. Work experience will be available to help learners build skills and gain experience in a work place. HHVLC also offers consultancy work where we can go into schools/homes to work with young people that are not stabilised enough to be educated. |
