elping Hands VLC is a charity in Workington that has been created to help disadvantaged low-income families, adults and young people, the homeless within the local community. We also want to help educate young people that are currently not in an education setting attend an alternative education setting to help them gain an education and to one day help them back into a mainstream setting.
We endeavour to give 100% commitment to help relieve poverty and improve health, and education.
About us:
We are a new Charity that wants to help provide the community without discrimination to the people who are on low or no income. We are a passionate team driven by purpose and deeply committed to our mission. We seek understanding, build trust and create meaning in our work together. We have strong links with external agencies due to one of our members being a professional Rugby player for 20 years and from Cumbria. We work with Young People who have struggled in a mainstream setting and work with any professionals aiding the families to get on the right path. We help provide our learners with work experience so they will have the basic skills to apply for a job.
What we do:
We receive donated bicycles which are then re-conditioned by our students and professional bike specialists and donated back to the community free of charge.
We receive donated furniture which is then upcycled by the students and given back to the community free of charge. We have also received huge donations of clothes for all sizes and sex, we have baby furniture, shoes, books, bedding, and blankets.
Everything we receive is checked and distributed back into the local community.
We will be making Clothes bags with personal hygiene essential in and these will be distributed to the homeless in a safe way within our own community or further afield within Cumbria.
We will be asking local companies to help support young people back into education.
Our Aim:
Its our vision that the lives of all children, young people and adults should live poverty free.
We are a charity that works with the local community from any race or background, families and the vulnerable to help them save money but at the same time providing essential items that people need to grow and thrive.
We aim to raise the profile and awareness of the young people who work on our schemes within our local setting by helping them prepare for a bigger and brighter future.
Plus deliver a service to invest and build to improve the wellbeing of everyone. We feel by working together we can improve the lives of disadvantaged families, adults and young people within the community without discrimination.
